Your History Tour Host

I'm a former High School Principal, with degrees in History, Victorian Studies, and Education. But my real love is English History, and most of all I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with others.

I use any excuse to visit historic sites and research their history - especially the slightly less well known ones.John W. Bateson

I'm fortunate to live in the English Midlands, only 20 minutes' drive from Birmingham International Airport and 90 minutes from Heathrow. This close to many of the most fascinating places that my homeland's rich heritage can offer - Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick, Oxford, the Cotswolds, are all within easy travelling distance - but I also love introducing people to places less well-known than those.

How many 'ordinary' tours take you to Coughton Court, where visitors can see the actual room where the Throckmorton family sat awaiting news of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 - to be told it had failed, and their sons were doomed to torture and execution? or to Ludlow Castle, from where the tragic brothers Edward and Richard set out on the journey that was to lead to the Tower of London and (if Shakespeare is to be believed) their death on the orders of Richard III?

I can take you to the places that others never visit, which are slightly off the beaten tourist track, and I can respond to any individual interest you might want to follow up. - or, if you prefer, I can create a history tour based on my own recommendations. Best of all , I can take you on our shared voyage of discovery in my rather special car. Rolls Royce

All over the world the name 'Rolls-Royce' is synonymous with quality and luxury. The grille, the badge, and the characteristic 'flying lady' are recognised everywhere. The cars are built by craftsmen, using skills which for hundreds of years built horse-drawn carriages for the aristocracy. The Rolls is the car used by the British Royal Family. It is a piece of English Heritage in itself, traditionally advertised simply as 'The Best Car in The World'.

I'm the proud owner of a 1987 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit; I love to drive it. It's a car in which you can enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

You can, of course, tour Britain in an ordinary hire car, using our congested motorways to get you from A to B. But if you prefer to see English countryside from English lanes; and if you don't mind a few admiring glances (a Rolls gets noticed!) then an Historic Quest might make part of your visit to England even more memorable.
